Marriage Traditions inside the Balkans

Weddings undoubtedly are a joyous occasion that symbolise the union of two people. They bring together households and friends for a completely unique event which is a yearly event for many. Nevertheless , in the past, wedding events used to become much more than that, these folks were a way of honoring a special bond and a new your life. The Balkans used to have a whole lot of interesting traditions adjoining marriage, many of which are still satisfied slovenian women today while others are generally lost soon enough. Here are some of all of them:

The comb and plaiting rite, or “Kolaanja”, is an important ritual in Albanian way of life. It’s only performed by girls which is accompanied with especially dedicated songs. After the comb and plaiting rite, the groom can be shaved. Similarly, the groom’s mom is also shaved at the same time. This kind of rite is certainly an essential part within the wedding plans.

With regards to Kosovo, there are a lot of customs that are intended to maintain calm relationships among a mother-in-law and daughter-in-law. One of those is a wedding ceremony tradition that requires the bride licking baby from the hands of her mother-in-law. It is presumed that the midst will ensure the couple’s happiness and prosperity.

Another traditional custom right from Kosovo is known as a “Dever” (the close friend of the groom). This gentleman is supposed to stay by the bride’s part until the girl with led away from her father’s house. This custom can be described as way of demonstrating the bride’s close relationship with her mother-in-law and her determination to her family unit.

Bulgarian ancestors had various superstitions encompassing the wedding procession. After arrival at the groom’s house, the bride was greeted by her mother-in-law who had to welcome her by giving her candy or perhaps honey. It was believed that it would prevent her coming from having babies that aren’t boys. In addition to that, the mother-in-law would as well give her a boy doll as a sign of good good luck for her and her hubby.

In Montenegro, there was a custom referred to as “tuzlanski zvizduk” in which the groom’s fully provided friends would take the woman to his home. This kind of ceremony was designated with a deafening horn boost. The few afterward sat straight down for a wedding party feast.

During the marriage feast, there is often a flow, or kolo, in which guests joined in a circle to dance. The move was usually accompanied by folks music and songs. During the kolo, the groom’s loved ones would sing special tracks to welcome the bride.

Besides the dancing and singing, there was clearly many other occurrences that happened in the wedding. A Kum (best man) was chosen and having been decorated with flowers and a package of rakija. The Kum then seen the groom’s close friends and offered them a sip of rakija. By doing this, they approved the invites to the wedding ceremony. Those who didn’t, were thought of bad guests. Interestingly enough, this same custom is still used in some regions.
